Widescreen is the term used to describe an image that is wider than that of a standard TV. In the following sections, I will discuss the different subjects related to widescreen, and video images in general. My purpose in creating this page is to attempt to educate you on what widescreen is, and how it is displayed on your TV (Standard or Widescreen). I will also discuss some of the alternative layouts that can be used on images, such as letterboxing, pan & scan, and open matte, and the effect it creates in the viewing experience.
